You can probably find an opinion on any topic you search for. Everyone has an opinion on everything. Opinions are not facts. And some opinions are bad.
Opinions from famous or popular people are not truths. An opinion on social media is not a fact. An opinion on the news is not fact.
In assessing opinions we need to consider the expertise of the person giving the opinion. Ray Dalio in his book called Principles refers to this process as believability weighting. We should weigh the opinion of a subject matter expert more heavily than the opinion from a novice.
For instance the opinion of a doctor weighs more heavily when it comes to COVID compared to your pastor.
When we believability weight opinions we are more likely to make better decisions.
