We have a natural tendency to want that which belongs to others. You can see it in little kids as they scramble for the same toys despite the variety.
We all have a grain of envy and jealousy within us.
The bible and other religious texts even warn us strongly against coveting our neighbours possessions. Advertisers play on this tendency to make us buy more products and services. They use admirable and famous people to advertise their products. Once we see a superstar using a particular product we rush to buy it.
But trying to keep up with your neighbours and friends can really get you broke. We all have our races to run in life. There is absolutely no need to emulate someone else’s lifestyle to our own detriment.
So the next time your neighbours’ lawn looks greener it is time to start watering yours!
