A Man of Noble Character

A man of noble character, who can find? He is worth more than gold and precious stones.

His wife trusts in him completely, and lacks nothing of value.

He honors his wife and cherishes her, treating her with love and respect.

She is his crown, and he delights in her, for together they walk in unity before the Lord.

He brings her good, not harm, all the days of his life.

He leads his household with wisdom and strength.

He brings honor to his family, and his name is revered in the city.

He works with diligence and skill, his hands are never idle.

He is like the merchant ships, bringing in provision from near and far.

He rises while it is still dark, he provides food for his family and portions for his servants.

He considers a field and buys it; out of his earnings, he plants a vineyard.

He sets about his work vigorously; his arms are strong for his tasks.

He sees that his trading is profitable, and his lamp does not go out at night.

He puts his hands to the plow, and does not turn back from his purpose.

He opens his arms to the poor and extends his hands to the needy.

He does not fear the storms, for his house is built on a firm foundation.

He clothes his family with strength and protection, and they have no fear of the days to come.

His home is a place of order and provision, his dwelling is secure in wisdom.

He is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

His wife is adored in the city.

He builds with his hands and prospers, his work is excellent and enduring.

He is clothed with strength and honor, he can laugh at the days to come.

He speaks with wisdom, and his words bring understanding and truth.

He watches over his household with diligence, and does not eat the bread of idleness.

His children rise and call him blessed; his wife honours and she praises him:

“Many men do noble things, but you surpass them all.”

Power fades, and wealth is fleeting, but a man who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Let him receive the fruit of his labor, and let his works bring him praise in the city.
