Don’t confuse your job title with your true identity.

In the corporate world, one’s job title can easily become an identity to be carried around everywhere. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your position at work. The challenge is when it is taken too far.

The problem with a job title is that it is temporary, and it will be taken away eventually. So, what then happens to an identity that has been built around a job title when you lose your job? I have witnessed some cases where people fell into severe depression upon losing their jobs.

It doesn’t have to be this way. There is an alternative. You can still do your work and be proud of your job title but realize that your true identity goes beyond your role. First and foremost, you are God’s child and were uniquely created in His image. You have been gifted with unique talents and gifts. You have a divine purpose to pursue in this world. So embrace your uniqueness; refine your gifts; and serve them to the world. Use your current job as a springboard to bring your gifts to the world.

But you are also a friend, a brother, a sister, a mother, a father, a wife, a husband, a confidant, a mentor, an inspiration. You are much more than your job title. Embrace the multiple roles the universe has blessed you with, and you will find meaning.

You are also a citizen of your country and the world at large. The world wouldn’t be the same without you. Much is dependent on you stepping into the world to make the difference only you know how to make.

So, you can see that you are much more than your job title. Don’t worry if anyone threatens to take it away from you. It was never yours in the first place. Instead, rest in the knowledge that you are a divine being, created in God’s very own image, with a unique mission to accomplish in this world.
