Starting a personal blog can feel like embarking on a small adventure where every post adds a layer to the rich tapestry of your life’s experiences and insights. I started actively writing publicly and blogging sometime in 2018. Initially, I wrote about my experiments with backyard fish farming but quickly realized that the topic was too niche and would not reach a wide audience. I then started writing about my experiences and observations with handling my personal finances. This was a good topic because almost everyone wants to do well with their money and is willing to listen to trusted voices out there.
This topic is something dear to me, having grown up in a modest home and seeing my single mom struggling to pay the bills and raise five kids. Writing about these experiences not only allowed me to share valuable insights but also honed my understanding and compassion towards others facing similar challenges.
I have been writing and publishing almost daily since 2018. I started writing on Facebook and then set up a website. I also created a LinkedIn newsletter, a Twitter page, and a YouTube page. I trademarked the brand name “The Money Engineer” and also registered a financial education company. Today my articles and content on all channels reach millions of people across the world. I have since written a book on personal finances and actively teach and coach hundreds of people how to improve their finances. What started as a tiny passion project has grown into a meaningful parallel career that helps many people improve their financial well-being.
So why am I telling you this? I want to encourage you to step out into the world and find and share your voice with it. The world needs your unique insights. Only you can articulate a viewpoint the way you do. Only you have experienced what you have. You have unique gifts, talents, knowledge, and experiences that you need to share with the world.
So, why should every professional consider starting a personal blog? The reasons are as diverse as the individuals themselves:
- Building a Personal Brand: A blog is a powerful tool for shaping how the world sees you professionally. It allows you to showcase your expertise and passions, setting you apart in your field.
